CWE inks new contract in Kenya
CWE signed a contract for transmission line construction with Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, on May 26, 2016.
It is the company’s first contract in Kenya since it entered the market in 2013. Being worth nearly USD 400 million, the project consists of three lots, respectively located in the neighboring regions of Nairobi and north of Kenya, which include the construction of 600km new transmission lines of 400kV and 200kV and building and expansion of seven substations.
The project is expected to remarkably optimize the power grid structure of the country upon completion with power supply improved at neighboring areas of Nairobi and greatly alleviated at relatively backward areas in north Kenya. In addition, it will drive the growth of relevant industries with significant economic and social benefits. The construction of transmission lines in the north will also provide essential conditions for export of wind power produced in northern Kenya.
