A fire drill launched by CWE at Isimba HPP in Uganda
In an endeavor to earnestly implement fire prevention policies of the project, the 2016 fire emergency drill was launched by CWE’s Isimba Hydropower Project Management on April 5 to ensure prompt response, adequate preparation, reasonable decision-making, and effective measures for protection of life and property in case of fire.
Professional firemen from the JINJA Fire Station were invited to oversee and instruct the drill which was attended by over 30 representatives of the Employer, the Engineer and construction units.
The professional firemen explained in detail the fire-fighting laws and regulations in Uganda, harmfulness of fire, prerequisites for fire burning and useful preventative measures; they also minutely answered questions raised by participants. In the follow-up drill, the firemen oversaw the whole process, and also demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers, briefed the functions and use of firefighting truck and other equipment.
With anticipated goals achieved, this drill was a success consented by representatives of the Employer and the Engineer. It enabled the participators to grasp basic knowledge on fire-fighting and use of relevant equipment, increasing the fire-proofing consciousness of the staff and improving the project management’s capability of fire control.
