On 28th December, 2012, CWE was awarded a third prize with certificate of honor by the China Society for Hydropower Engineering for its paper on Research and Application of Embanking Technique with Fine Sand and Reinforcement at Middle Route of South to North Water Diversion Project.
The South to North Water Diversion Project is an influential and arduous project with long-term benefits. Composed of the Eastern Route, Middle Route, and the planning Western Route, the Project is designed to divert water from the Yangtze River at the upstream, middle stream, and downstream respectively and interconnect the Yangtze River, Huaihe River, Yellow River, and Haihe River for coordinated regulation so as to form an overall network of water resources, described as “four in horizontal and three in vertical, north and south deployment, east and west mutual compensation”, radically changing the serious situation of uneven distribution of water resources in China.
CWE South America Ltd., before its business turning to international markets, has contracted in 2006 the Emergency Water Supply Works at the Beijing-Shijiazhuang Section of the Middle Route of South to North Water Diversion Project, which was 307km in total length, and achieved its completion in September 2008 with water supply to the Capital Beijing.
In August, 2008, as requested by the South to North Water Diversion Project Construction Administration of Hebei Province, CWE engineers led by Mr. Yang Guangjie began the study on subject of Embanking Technique with Fine Sand and Reinforcement so as to alleviate the shortage of suitable embanking soil and reduce land acquisition.
During study on the subject, through analytical research, calculations and field tests, engineers of CWE succeeded in a new technique for embanking with find sand and reinforcement, which was a technical breakthrough in ration calculation of the Project. In 2011, Mr. Yang Guangjie summarized the study results in a paper and applied for the Scientific and Technical Award of the China Society for Hydropower Engineering.
